CROC STUDY
Phase 1: The Live Sculpt The primary forms and secondary skin folds were sculpted live as a demonstration of organic speed-sculpting. The focus was on achieving a believable silhouette and anatomical structure within a single session, emphasizing the transition from block-out to refined skin textures.
Phase 2: Post-Session Lookdev The texturing was handled as a follow-up study to demonstrate a high-end PBR (Physically Based Rendering) pipeline.
Surface Breakup: Utilising custom height maps to create the distinctive "scute" texture of crocodilian skin.
Roughness Contrast: Creating a "wet-to-dry" transition, specifically around the eyes and mouth, to simulate a semi-aquatic creature.
Storytelling Layers: * Skin Damage: Adding scars and abrasions to suggest age and combat history.
Environmental Accumulation: A final algae and moss layer to ground the asset in a swamp environment.
